Finding a Family Doctor

Note: In case of an emergency in Ontario, go to a hospital or call 911.

In the Province of Ontario, a family doctor or nurse practitioner is your primary health care provider – meaning they are the person you make an appointment with when you have a non-emergency health concern.

For information, please visit these websites:

Once you are enrolled in the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), you have two options to search for a family doctor or nurse practitioner.

We also suggest asking colleagues and others if they can recommend primary healthcare providers who are accepting new patients.

Incoming faculty members who have high or complex medical needs, or who have dependents moving with them with high or complex needs, are encouraged to contact the Faculty Relocation Service to discuss searching for a healthcare provider.
